Barbara Roche, MP, announced the UK Government’s plans to license wider sections of the radio spectrum on Thursday, opening up the way to a new generation of mobile phones with video screens and internet access. At least three licenses for for Universal Mobile Telephone Services are expected to come up for auction by mid-next year, with the first phones on the market by the year 2002. Cellnet Mobile Communications Plc is one of those already working on products.
