A new semiconductor memory subsystem distributor called Solid State Solutions Ltd has been established in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire. Financed by the National Westminster Bank, the operation is headed by Roger Smith, formerly general manager of DDC Pertec’s UK and Scandinavian division. The company will start by distributing memory subsystem products from the Los Angeles-based company Imperial Technology Inc throughout the UK, Europe, and Scandinavia. These memory subsystems cater for systems from most major suppliers with the exception of DEC’s VAX minimcomputer line, but have hitherto been unavailable outside of the US. They are used as a disk replacement, emulating the disk so that the memory subsystem is transparent to the system. The company is looking to end-user markets in process control, telecommunications, and defence systems, and offers engineering support for the provision of interfaces as well as normal service contracts which will be handled from the UK.
