Belgium’s last surviving computer plant making anything bigger than desk-tops is to close: Unisys Corp has announced that the former Burroughs plant in Herstal, which used to build the B900 and 1900 and the X500 for Europe, and has been making Convergent machines of late, will cease manufacture on November 30, with 400 of the 500 employees out on the street. The remaining 100 employees will remain to carry on the international repair centre activities also based at the plant.
