IBM Corp may have sold the contract with its Federal Systems business, but the IBM pall lingers over the contract and the US Federal Aviation Administration has finally decided that enough is enough, and it is cancelling two parts of the Advanced Automation System air traffic control modernisation project, which is now the responsibility of Loral Corp; the Area Control Computer Complex had already been suspended in March and the other one that is now terminal is the Terminal Advanced Automation System; it plans eventually to reshape those segments and put them up for competitive bidding; Loral says the ongoing parts of the contract are still worth over $1,000m.
