The US General Services Administration will appoint two prime contractors for the FTS2000 government telecommunications network, but the way the system will be subdivided is not yet settled: the move provides a way back into the bidding for US Sprint Communications and Electronic Data Systems, but is unwelcome news for Martin Marietta Corp, which has already invested $50m in putting together its consortium and wanted the thing settled quickly; it will neverthe-less proceed with its bid provided the split is agreeable and attractive; AT&T Co is the other bidder.
