The ineffable US-Japan Semiconductor Trade Agreement could be on its last legs: following the lobby begun in June by Tektronix Inc and a host of other chip users (CI No 954), the American Electronics Association, which despite representing far more chip users likely to be hurt by the agreement than chipmakers that might benefit, had sided with the Semiconductor Industry Association, has now bowed to the majority of its members and is to ask the Commerce Department in Washington to terminate the pact.
