It’s going to be easier for companies to do business with the People’s Republic of China following relaxations planned by the US Commerce Department on goods that may be exported there: telecommunications equipment manufacturers appear to get the biggest break, with the ban to be lifted on stored program control telephone exchanges, software for common channel signalling, and data switches – provided in each case they are designed for civil use; licences for equipment to make fibre optic cable may also be granted, as well as ones for the export of single wafer plasma etchers for semiconductor fabrication.
