The Deutsche Bundespost Telekom’s approval authority, the ZZF, has given Touchbase Inc’s WorldPort 2400/MNP portable data modem the official stamp of approval, which the company has proudly added to its list of 100 other product approvals in over 30 countries. Excited to be the supplier of the first German-approved WorldPort modem, Northport, New York-based Touchbase plans to seek certification of additional WorldPort products in Germany, including its WorldPort 2496, a fax/data modem with send and receive capabilities and the WorldPort 9600, a V32, 9600bps data modem. The WorldPort 2400/MNP supports the Microcom MNP Class 5 standard and offers error correction and data compression features, says the firm, to enable error-free and faster data transmission over the telephone line. The unit weighs 7.5 oz and is pocket-sized – 4.8 by 2.75 by 1.0, and is compatible with international transmission protocols. It also includes an acoustic coupler interface, speaker and LED indicators for call progress monitoring. Available at the end of the second quarter, the WorldPort 2400/MNP will cost the Deutschmark equivalent of $745 in Germany.
