Uzbekistan has granted mobile telephony licenses to three new operators, Uzbek-US joint ventures, Rubikon, Koskom and the Malaysian-Uzbek joint venture Uzmakom. Rubikon was created by the republic’s communications ministry in co-operation with Emis Protrade Inc (32.5%), Koskom was formed by the Uzbekkosmos agency (Uzbekistan) and MST (51%), Uzmakom is a joint venture between Uztelekom and Malaysia-based Superior Communications (65%). The existing mobile telephone operator is Tashkent based Uzdunrobita, and Daewoo Central Paging Corp (Korea) also says that it plans to invest $390m in building cellular infrastructure in Uzbekistan during the next three years.
