North Springfield, Vermont-based Vermont Research Corp has launched a new solid-state secondary store, the K2-3000, for the Digital Equipment Corp VAX, with transfer rates in excess of 600 input-output operations per second, 20 times faster than the fastest mechanical disk drive: the SCSI interface has been converted to the DSSI format; it did not give a price, but the K2 Series 1000 version for IBM Corp’s RS/6000 costs $11,940 for a 32Mb system, $29,350 for 128Mb, $54,590 for 256Mb and $206,010 for the 1Gb.
