Novell Inc, Compagnie des Machines Bull SA and 3M Co joined forces in Poland last week to try and convince data processing managers and dealers of the need for network data security. Colorado Memory Systems Inc, which manufactures personal computer tape back-up systems and was acquired by Hewlett-Packard Co in October this year (CI No 2,037), and United Parcel Service supplier BEST, also took part in the event, which was organised by Warsaw-based distributor MSP Sp zoo. MSP director Piotr Sienkiewicz said that the aim of the conference was to show senior personnel the benefits of updating management structures and rehearsing contingency plans in data-critical industries, such as insurance and banking. The other objective was to educate the company’s 500 dealers in how to develop a more cohesive and strategic approach to management-oriented data security issues. At present, sales are made on a product-by-product basis. MSP intends to hold regular multi-vendor conferences on these and related issues in an attempt to expand the Polish market for network management products. It has already held various company-specific events with Microsoft Corp, Corel Inc and Borland International Inc. MSP is one of the major distributors for Borland, and the sole distributor of Central Point Software Inc products in Poland.
