Desktop Linux specialist Xandros Inc is claiming an industry first with the addition of third-generation wireless support to the German version of its Xandros Desktop OS operating system.
The New York-based Linux vendor unveiled support for high-speed UMTS in the Business Edition of its Xandros Desktop OS at CeBIT, but it is restricting the availability of the technology to Germany at this stage.
Third-generation mobile communication is taking off in Germany and many of our customers have access to this service, said Xandros CEO, Andreas Typaldos. Keeping up with the changing trends and increasing demands, we are pleased to announce UMTS as another Xandros ‘first’.
Previously the preserve of Novell Inc acquisition SUSE Linux, Germany is becoming a key target market for Xandros. It launched its first German edition in November 2005 and has now also signed up a distribution agreement with Avanquest Deutschland GmbH to deliver the Xandros product line in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
