Desktop Linux specialist Xandros Inc has released the first version of its xDMS Xandros Desktop Management Server product for the deployment, configuration and management of Linux desktops.
The New York-based Linux distributor began testing the xDMS product in April, heralding a move towards the business requirements for supporting Linux on the desktop. The product is aimed at small business and large enterprise communities alike.
xDMS will additionally be available free of charge with the purchase of 5-, 25- or 50-seat licenses of the Xandros Desktop OS Business Edition operating system, costing $645, $2,995, and $5,495 respectively.
A graphical desktop deployment and management tool, xDMS enables administrators to set up software repositories, manage software inventories, create managed groups of desktops, and create custom configurations according to role or departmental needs.
The product also enables snapshots of PC configurations, remote installs and updates, remote program execution, task scheduling, and centralized systems configuration management.
