To enhance 2.5G network capacity and coverage in Sri Lanka
Alcatel-Lucent has received a new contract from Etisalat Lanka, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the UAE-based Etisalat, to enhance its GSM/EDGE (2.5G) network capacity and coverage and build a 3G HPSA+ (3.75G) wireless all-IP broadband network in Sri Lanka.
Under the terms of agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will be sole supplier of the converged radio access, a new all-IP mobile packet core network capable of supporting 2G, 3G and LTE, a full IP transport offering and related professional services.
Alcatel-Lucent said that in total, 480 GSM/EDGE (2.5G) sites and 515 3G HPSA+ (3.75G) sites will be deployed in Sri Lanka as part of the agreement.
In addition, Alcatel-Lucent will offer a MiTV application that will enable Etisalat Lanka to deliver advanced mobile broadband and multimedia services such as mobile interactive television and video to subscribers and businesses in Sri Lanka.
Etisalat Lanka CTO Sanath Pilapitiya said that Alcatel-Lucent’s offering and support will help the company to expand its network and introduce new wireless services.
"Our ongoing relationship with Alcatel-Lucent and their experience in both wireless and IP along with an optimized total cost of ownership were among the key reasons we selected them as our sole supplier," Pilapitiya said.
