Enables Ericsson to strengthen its position in the M2M market
Telecom networking equipment maker Ericsson has completed the asset purchase agreement to acquire Telenor Connexion’s M2M (machine-to-machine) technology platform, first announced on 19 April 2011.
The acquisition includes Telenor Connexion’s M2M technology platform and transfer of 11 employees who will continue to work with development of the service offering provided on Ericsson’s M2M service, Device Connection Platform.
However, details of acquisitions have not been disclosed.
Ericsson’s Device Connection Platform enables telecom operators to set up tailored M2M services for enterprise customers.
Ericsson aims the deal will help it focus solely on the M2M communication market and strengthen its position, complement its service and improve the offerings.
Both Ericsson and Telenor are based in Sweden, and Telenor Connexion is a subsidiary of Telenor Group, a Norway-based provider of mobile communications services.
Telenor Connexion also becomes the first customer to Ericsson on the platform.
Mobile connectivity is used in several M2M solutions such as smart meters and fleet management and is useful in all products with software, which can be easily upgraded if they were connected to a mobile network.
Ericsson has over 2 billion subscribers and offers mobile and fixed network infrastructure, telecom services, software, broadband and multimedia solutions for operators, enterprises and the media industry.
