G-Cloud 6 now available on Digital Marketplace

G-Cloud 6 has today gone live on the UK Government’s Digital Marketplace. Building on the success of G-Cloud 5, the number of suppliers has grown by 15% to 1,453, while 10,827 new services have also been added.

According to the Digital Marketplace blog, G-Cloud 6 has been the most effective iteration for attracting new suppliers, with 516 new to the framework.

This brings the total number of suppliers on the Digital Marketplace to 1,852 (87% SMEs), with 19,966 services available.

Although G-Cloud 4 has ended with those services no longer available, public sector buyers are now able to commission cloud services from G-Cloud 5 and G-Cloud 6 suppliers.

The blog also states that suppliers are already able to update their contact details on the Digital Marketplace through the dashboard, while ‘G-Cloud 6 services will be visible on the supplier dashboard soon.’

Brendan Flattery, CEO of Sage UK and Ireland, commented: "We know that the cloud is transforming the way that our customers do business and the G-Cloud is a fantastic initiative that every small business owner needs to know about."

"It was set-up to streamline the Government’s interaction with technology suppliers and make it even easier for SMEs to compete and win public sector contracts and £350m of sales has already gone through G-Cloud to date.

"Increasing numbers of Government departments, local authorities and public sector bodies are tendering contracts through the G-Cloud, and the latest iteration released today will see that trend accelerate. The opportunity for SMEs is huge and that opportunity is only going to grow in 2015."

Launched in 2012, G-Cloud enables public sector bodies to buy cloud-based digital services off-the-shelf, avoiding lock-in to expensive contracts with single suppliers.
