Acronis vmProtect 6 reduces complexity of protecting VMware virtual servers, says company
Acronis, a provider of disaster recovery and data protection offerings for physical, virtual and cloud environments, has unveiled a backup and disaster recovery tool for VMware customers.
The company said that Acronis vmProtectTM 6 has been engineered exclusively for VMware vSphereTM servers (v4.0, 4.1 or later) using ESX and ESXi hypervisors.
The tool provides businesses with a simple-to-deploy, easy-to-manage disaster recovery offering for agentless back up and quick recovery of their VMware virtual environments, claimed the company.
It said that Acronis vmProtect 6 can recover a virtual machine directly from a backup image, without having to do a full restore, and actual recovery times can take less than a minute.
Acronis vmProtect 6 can be installed as a virtual appliance, and Web-based interface allows remote management, even on a smartphone, simplifying management and reporting tasks, said Acronis.
Data de-duplication and compression capabilities are included for free with Acronis vmProtect 6. In addition, for added security, backups can be encrypted using industry-standard 256 bit AES algorithms, said the company.
Acronis CEO Jason Donahue said protecting VMware servers should be neither complex nor costly.
"By using a solution that speaks directly to VMware requirements, businesses can accelerate their virtualisation adoption. IT managers need never question the status, availability or recovery time of their virtual data again," Donahue said.
