It bought 450 children’s titles from Marshall Cavendish
Amazon has decided to strengthen its book publishing business by extending its reach to children’s books, as it bought 450 titles from Marshall Cavendish.
This is the book retailers’ entry into another new arena after testing waters in mystery, romance and science fiction titles. Amazon sees this as an opportunity to boost the charm of its Kindle Fire tablet.
Amazon Publishing vice president Jeff Belle is of the belief the children’s book market presents a unique opportunity to innovate in both print and digital formats. With many of the Marshall Cavendish titles currently unavailable as ebooks, Amazon.com "see[s] a chance to connect a terrific group of authors and illustrators with more readers", he said.
He added, "We also see the potential for similar deals across other categories in the future."
The financial terms of this deal were not disclosed.
