The technology makes texting while walking safer.
Apple has filed a patent for the latest technology feature called transparent texting, designed to help iPhone users to text more safely while walking.
The iPhone maker said the feature replaces the text background with a live video feed of whatever is in front of the user through the device’s rear camera.
Transparent texting is expected to help users who walk and text at the same time, as the live video feed would show users what is coming in their way.
The patent said: "A user who is walking while participating in a text messaging session may inadvertently collide with or stumble over objects in his path because his attention was focused on his device’s display instead of the path that he was traversing."
The new technology will also include a transparency button that appears during a texting session and display live feed in the background with overlaid text bubbles, which could be opaque or semi-transparent.
"Alternative embodiments of the invention can be applied to virtually any computer-executable application in which text is presented over a background," Apple said.
