The 3G version of the iPad recorded 80% of UK iPad sales in November
According to latest data from market research firm Context, UK shoppers are buying more of the 3G 64GB version of the Apple iPad and is the most popular device among them during this Christmas.
Due to mobile network operator stores being a major outlet for sales of the device, the 3G version of the iPad recorded 80% of UK iPad sales in November, defeating the Wi-Fi devices, the report found.
Almost half of the UK shoppers are buying the 64GB version because of its higher memory, while only a quarter of Europeans are buying the 3G tablet, the report added.
A 6.5 growth has been seen in the iPad sales across the region compared to the prior month as Apple continued to put a fight against Galaxy Tab from Samsung.
The research firm, however, earlier in the year indicated that more users favoured the Wi-Fi version of the iPad 70%, which can be attributed to Apple shipping more Wi-Fi models than 3G devices.
"The iPad 3G has been outselling its Wi-Fi counterpart since June this year", said Jeremy Davies, CEO and co-founder of Context. "iPad 3G sales peaked in August this year and made up 64% of all iPad sales in Western Europe. IPad sales are climbing in the run-up to the all-important Christmas period. Our Panel reporting shows that iPad sales volumes were up across Europe 6.5% in November compared to the previous month."
