Allows users to make calls from any SIM card
India-based Bharti Airtel’s handset-making and distribution arm Beetel Teletech has forayed into the tablet market with the launch of ‘Magiq’ for INR9,999 ($220).
The 7-inch Beetel Magiq tablet with Android 2.2 operating system will allow users to make calls from any SIM card, regardless of the service provider.
Beetel Magiq, which supports WiFi and 3G, features 2 Megapixel front and rear camera, 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 8 GB internal memory that is expandable to 16 GB.
Beetel Teletech executive director and CEO Vinod Sawhny said their affordable sim card-agnostic tablet consists of features that were not within the reach of the majority of Indian customers.
Big players like Apple, BlackBerry, Motorola and Samsung have recently launched their tablets in India.
However, Beetel intends to capture large share in the tablet market with the ultra-competitive price, which is almost four times less than its competitors.
Reportedly, China’s Huawei Telecommunications is manufacturing the tablet.
