DST, a provider of mobile, broadband, broadcasting and content services, and Research In Motion (RIM) have introduced the BlackBerry offering in Brunei.
The BlackBerry offering brings together smartphones, software and services to allow easy wireless access to email, messaging, social networking, phone, calendar, web, multimedia and other business and lifestyle applications.
The companies said that DST customers will be able to get the BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone and connect on a corporate or consumer based BlackBerry service plan.
The new BlackBerry Bold 9700 offers an array of communications and multimedia features in a compact design and supports 3G (HSDPA) networks around the world.
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 comes with built-in GPS and Wi-Fi, a 3.2MP camera and the handset features a dark chrome frame and leatherette back with an integrated optical trackpad and a fretted keyboard.
DST is offering BlackBerry Internet service, a service designed for smaller businesses and individuals that allows customers to access up to 10 supported corporate and personal email accounts from a BlackBerry smartphone.
In addition, the BlackBerry Internet service also provides automatic synchronisation of messages between the subscriber’s BlackBerry smartphone and email accounts.
Further, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software by DST integrates with IBM Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange and Novell GroupWise and works with existing enterprise systems, to enable secure, push-based wireless access to email and other corporate applications.
DST Group CEO Idris Vasi said the this launch increases their service and product portfolio and aligns them better with their customer requirements, as DST is always looking for innovative new services and capabilities for their customers.
"The launch of the BlackBerry offering will increase the number of smart-phone users in Brunei and should lead to a corresponding increase in data-usage and Value Added Services from DST," Vasi said.
