Extreme Networks has launched a new energy efficient version of its Summit X650 10GBASE-T data centre switch, designed for the next generation data centre, cloud computing and hosted environments.
The company claims that its second generation 10 gigabit ethernet switch Summit X650-24t, consumes 200W less power during operation than the first generation. The Summit X650 is complemented with Intel’s new lower power 10GBASE-T adapter that provides interface to high performance servers.
The Summit X650 is designed with the ExtremeXOS operating system and SummitStack stacking technology. It supports both 10GBASE-T copper and SFP+ fiber, a new small form factor transceiver technology enabling 10GbE network connectivity, the company said.
Extreme Networks said that SummitStack stacking technology is now leveraged to mix gigabit ethernet switches with the Summit X650 10G switches, allowing for migration to 10 gigabit technology in the data centre.
Harpreet Chadha, senior director of product management at Extreme Networks, said: Delivery of the latest generation Summit X650 offers excellent energy efficiency and provides customers with cost-effective 10GbE options for standard RJ45 copper interfaces using CAT 5 and CAT 6 cabling, up to 100 meters, making it a perfect fit for the data centre.
