‘Disruptive pricing’ to tempt users away from Adobe?
Global Graphics has launched a free enterprise-level PDF creation platform, called gDoc Creator. The company is hoping that the disruptive pricing strategy will tempt users away from Adobe Acrobat.
GDoc Creator enables users to convert documents from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint into PDF or XPS and can also convert PDFs into Word documents. Conversion can be executed via one click through the Microsoft Office application toolbar.
Global Graphics claims this can make users more productive by reducing the amount of cut and paste needed to create various documents. Gary Fry, CEO of Global Graphics spoke to CBR at the launch of gDoc Fusion earlier this year and said that ease of use would tempt users to switch from Adobe.
“I’m not arrogant enough to rubbish Adobe Acrobat,” Fry told CBR at the time. “But a large enough number of people want better functionality and an application that is easier to use. This is not an Acrobat clone – this is something unique that allows speedy and efficient development of documents.”
GDoc Creator is part of the company’s gDoc Fusion platform, and Fry hopes that an evaluation version of Fusion that comes with Creator will convince more enterprises to switch to the full version.
“GDoc Creator gives immediate value to the corporate desktop. It also allows evaluation use of gDoc Fusion, demonstrating the ease of use and benefits of the full version. When an enterprise realises the productivity benefits of the full version of gDoc Fusion, it’s a very simple process to then upgrade,” said Fry.
Fry said that the current economic situation means that enterprises are watching their budgets closely, and Creator’s pricing policy will help adoption.
“GDoc Creator is the only enterprise quality PDF software tool that is available for free. Offering so much functionality for free will drive adoption in large enterprises at a time when their budgets are under extreme pressure. It also makes the basic free PDF software tools obsolete and puts real pressure on low-end paid-for PDF software,” he said.
“Businesses should no longer need to pay for simple PDF creation and we hope our disruptive pricing strategy will begin to redraw the lines of this market. Global Graphics is set to win a significant share of knowledge workers who find themselves having to compile information from a range of sources and formats, and our corporate licensing scheme will make it simple for companies to roll this out across the enterprise,” Fry added.
