To be launched at the upcoming Facebook event on June 20, 2013.
Photo sharing app, Instagram is reportedly planning to introduce a video feature to its service at the upcoming Facebook event to be held on June 20, 2013.
The new service, planned to be launched by the photo-sharing firm, will allow users to upload short video clips of 5-10 seconds in length, onto its network.
The move is anticipated to raise Instagram’s profile against Twitter’s Vine app launched in January 2013, according to a report from TechCrunch.
Instagram has about 100 million users, while the addition of new capability is expected to increase the use of service.
Twitter’s launch of the Android version of Vine app has assisted in increasing shares of Vine clips than those of Instagram images on Twitter.
The launch of video functionality follows Facebook’s addition of hashtag feature in its comments, which will assist users in tracking popular topics being discussed on the social network.
Recently, Facebook has also confirmed its plans to chop the ‘sponsored results‘ from search pages, as part of its efforts to trim down its 27 different ad units to less than half.
