SkyDrive app can be downloaded via Google Play Store
Microsoft has launched the android version of its cloud service, the SkyDrive app, for the Android powered smartphones, which can be downloaded through Google Play Store.
Similar to the company’s mobile apps for Windows Phone and iOS, the new SkyDrive application is optimised for use with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
SkyDrive Apps group programme manager Mike Torres said Android phone users should enjoy a similar experience to iOS and Windows Phone owners.
"In building the new SkyDrive app for Android, we wanted to ensure we kept the same intuitive design of all SkyDrive experiences while also making use of Android design patterns and conventional interactions, so this feels natural for people with Android phones," Torres said.
SkyDrive app for Android allows the users to view and share recent documents, select multiple photos or videos to upload from their phone, share files and photos, opening of SkyDrive files from other Android apps, management of files through delete or create newfolder options.
According to Microsoft, the application develops a link to the files in the cloud and allows users to send that link to anyone.
Currently, SkyDrive is to compete with Dropbox, SugarSync and Google Drive among many others in the cloud storage services.
