Allows administrators to streamline and automate virtual machine provisioning
Oracle has released an updated version of its server virtualisation and management offering, Oracle VM 3.0.
Oracle said the latest release is suitable for all datacenter workloads and features new policy-based management capabilities, storage management through the Oracle VM Storage Connect plug-in API; centralised network configuration management, and Open Virtualization Format (OVF) support.
Storage Connect plug-in framework lets administrators manage virtualisation and attached storage arrays through Oracle VM Manager, while OVF industry standard support enables customers to use Oracle VM Manager to import OVF based software assemblies for application deployment.
Oracle VM 3.0 allows administrators to streamline and automate virtual machine provisioning, and helps customers deploy enterprise software in an error-free manner, the company said.
It also enables configuration of all server and VM networking from the Oracle VM Manager GUI, including options such as bridging, bonding, VLANs and multi-pathing.
The new version offers 90 templates for Oracle applications, middleware and databases, and supports over 128 virtual CPUs per virtual machine. It also offers support for up to 160 physical CPUs and 2TB memory using Oracle’s Sun Fire X4800 M2 servers.
Oracle VM 3.0 supports Oracle Linux, Oracle Solaris and Microsoft Windows, and allows customers to leverage Oracle VM 3.0 as the default server virtualisation offering across their entire multi-vendor data centre, the company said.
Oracle VM Manager 3.0 leverages Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) and Oracle WebLogic Server 11g, to simplify administrative operations through a Web-browser based user interface.
Other enhancements include server and storage discovery help speed infrastructure and a new real-time HTML user interface and event tracking capabilities.
