New business process management suite at Italian tyre maker
It was at the 2013 British Grand Prix that Italian tyre maker Pirelli got the type of publicity that a company could only dream of in its worst nightmares.
Over that racing weekend a series of high speed blow outs occurred as the Pirelli tyres on the world’s most advanced racing cars exploded.
As images from the F1 race were beamed around the world live this was a disaster for a brand that built its reputation on supplying the boots to high performance cars.
Now the company has deployed Appian, a business process management (BPM) and Case Management software suite.
Pirelli’s deployments range from sales and product design to quality and safety control, all while leveraging enterprise data management and social collaboration to deliver the most modernized IT infrastructure, the IT supplier said.
"Appian’s Work Platform helps our IT infrastructure match our brand promise of excellence and high-performance," said Alessandra Banfi, CIO at Pirelli. "Appian is fast in terms of application roll-out times, precise in terms of the control it gives us over our operations, and modern in terms of its features, such as native mobility and social collaboration."
"Given the high level of quality and performance associated with the Pirelli name, executive leadership mandated a review of internal IT infrastructure to ensure that supporting systems were as proactive as possible. The goal was to evolve Pirelli IT into an event-driven architecture that "pushes" relevant information and actions to the business users who need them," Appian said in a statement.
Pirelli’s Mould Management solution uses Appian to accelerate requests from automobile manufacturers for new tyre types, or for changes to existing tyre models.
Appian handles the input and routing of requests to ensure the completion and hand-offs of all related work tasks for improved responsiveness and service quality. Pirelli’s second solution, called Decomplexity, ties various project specifications in the ERP system to the related business processes conducted in various departments across the company. Appian business rules optimize process flow, collaborations and approvals to ensure the accuracy and consistency of all data.
The Appian platform provides major breakdown analysis on factory machinery to reduce production losses and vendor rating management monitoring of all steps and actions involved in a Vendor Rating Campaign to reduce time through automatic reminders and escalating tasks.
"Pirelli’s Appian program demonstrates how to apply a Work Platform to transform operations and drive performance across multiple core business areas," said Matt Calkins, President and CEO at Appian. "Readily available access to data and intuitive collaboration allow employees to be fully connected to company actions that drive business growth."
Appian partnered with BPM provider Easynex to drive Pirelli’s initial BPM implementations.
