Likely to announce three new services in February
Microsoft will come out with new data services next month that will synch and automatically backup to the cloud contact, email, SMS, calendaring and image data held on Windows and non-Windows Mobile OS mobile phones.
Announcements of three new services are expected at the February Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, according to unconfirmed reports on the website of Redmond-watcher Neowin.
Currently dubbed SkyBox, SkyLine and SkyMarket, two are data services that deal with mobile backup and synchronisation, while the other flags Microsoft’s debut in the App Market segment.
SkyBox will target consumers. The Skyline service is reportedly a business version of Skybox, but with a focus on Microsoft Exchange hosting.
SkyMarket is supposedly a rival to the hugely successful Apple App Store but aimed squarely at users of Windows Mobile handhelds. No information is available on the number of type of applications on offer.
Microsoft is also expected to roll out the mobile version of Windows Live Mesh services next month, and should also unveil Windows Mobile 6.5 with the new honeycomb web start menu at the show.
