ChatON to compete with iMessage, BBM
Samsung has revealed that it will launch a mobile instant messaging tool called ChatON this October.
The service will compete with similar chatting services from Research In Motion’s BlackBerry (BBM) and Apple (iMessage).
ChatOn will allow users to send text, images, chat in groups and share video clips, said Samsung.
The new tool will also allow smartphone users to rank their friends based on the number of times they communicate. Users will be able to comment on user profiles, photos and videos, said Samsung.
The South Korean company added that ChatON will come preinstalled in both feature phones and smartphones running on its own bada operating system (OS) and Google’s Android platform.
Apple has said that its new service iMessage will allow millions of iPhone and iPad users to send messages to one another over the Internet at no cost.
ChatON will work across all major smartphone platforms including iPhone and BlackBerry, said Samsung.
The service will be officially announced at IFA 2011.
