News: Payments provider offers new universal payments platform.
Verifone has unveiled a new point of sales (POS) platform for smartphones and tablets.
The e265 can be paired with any smartphone or tablet, offering card payment acceptance, contactless or near-field communicaton, mobile wallet and traditional magnetic stripe.
This universality aims to help vendors bridge the gap between traditional and new forms of payment, preventing them from being restricted to either fobs or dongles with limited payment functionality or payment terminals that only support one type of consumer smart device or operating system.
Verifone’s new product will make use of its Engage platform, which connects payment terminals to the internet and allows them to run apps.
When paired with a smart tablet through Bluetooth, the e265 can be connected with eCommerce apps that deliver digital coupons, loyalty and rewards during check-out.
It is PCI PTS 4.0 approved, features a durable design and is certified globally for EMV and NFC payments.
The solution is expected to launch in early 2016.
"Imagine those merchants in hard-to-reach places where simply adding the power of accepting card payments can really change their game," said Glen Robson, executive vice president, Global Head of Terminal Solutions, Verifone.
Robson added: "On the other side of the spectrum, Verifone e265 is an ideal mPOS solution for merchants that want to offer value-added services to increase traffic and revenue with a multi-channel approach to commerce right at their fingertips."
"Many of our channel clients, especially those serving merchants in regions such as Southern Europe and Latin America, are experiencing high demand for a cost-effective, feature-rich mPOS solution," said Robson.
