Football club hopes game will develop young fan base
Tottenham Hotspur FC has launched an online game in an attempt to develop its younger fan base.
The football club’s digital platform, called Tottenham Turfies, is a browser-based game that is set among the grass of Spurs’ football pitch.
Developed with digital agency Hangar Seven, the game allows children to create their own Turfie and take part in virtual traning sessions.
Children can choose from more than 115m customisation combinations to create their Turfie, which looks like a miniature football.
The game’s developers hope it will make the club more appealing to both boys and girls under the age of 11, when many children who enjoy football pick a club to support.
Chairman Daniel Levy said: "We wanted to make Tottenham Hotspur Football Club more accessible to a younger age group and reach out to the next generation of fans around the world who will play a vital role in the future of the club.
"This platform represents a significant investment and we believe this fun and entertaining concept is the perfect way to engage our younger fans like never before."
The nature of the game encourages children to invite friends to play, with leaderboards recording who is the best at a variety of events including quizzes, jigsaw puzzles, and games to improve hand-eye co-ordination.
The free game was designed with HTML5, and is compatible with Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, as well as desktop computers.
