4G network offers download speed of more than five times than 3G
US based operator Verizon Wireless will launch a smartphone from Motorola for its new, high-speed wireless fourth-generation network next year.
Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney told Bloomberg in an interview that the device will be one of the phones and tablet computers to run on the company’s so-called fourth-generation network.
The company claims that its new 4G network offers a download speed which is more than five times faster than the company’s 3G network.
Verizon has launched the new service this month and said that it will cover two-thirds of the US within 18 months. However, other operators such as AT&T will introduce their own 4G service next year.
Meanwhile, Motorola spokeswoman Jennifer Erickson said the company plans to introduce 4G devices in 2011, without specifying which wireless operators would carry them, Bloomberg reported.
