The City of Davenport, Iowa has implemented physical security information management solutions provider VidSys software to enable a city-wide video surveillance system.
According to VidSys, the system will improve public safety through remote surveillance of high-crime areas and enhance the effectiveness of local law enforcement and contribute to the prevention and prosecution of criminal acts. The system will also augment the city’s ability to manage natural disasters or manmade disturbances.
VidSys set about to meet these challenges by gathering the input of the Davenport IT department, the Davenport Police Department and Davenport Fire Department so that functional specifications could be identified, through which system requirements were developed. Safety officials and first responders can now remotely monitor and view incidents in real time and allow officers to obtain information and watch streaming video from cameras around the city via computers in their squad-cars.
Chuck Teubner, CEO of VidSys, said: The City of Davenport provided us with a challenging opportunity – designing a system that incorporates many different in-place technologies and systems and an operating environment that did not have a universal view or capability to manage video from one interface. Applying our Physical Security Information Management software allowed us to deliver a comprehensive, scalable system that seamlessly brings those disparate elements together to enable better decision making for the protection and safety of the citizens, first responders, and businesses of Davenport.
In July 2008, Frost & Sullivan selected VidSys for the 2008 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Emerging Company of the Year for its product innovation capabilities in introducing the VidShield physical security information management (PSIM) platform to help bridge the gap between the information technology and the security industries.
