Smart Protect technology added to processor to bolster device security.
Qualcomm is set to introduce a new feature named Smart Protect technology in its upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor to improve device security.
The Smart Protect technology will use Qualcomm Zeroth technology, which will aid in monitoring the behaviour of apps on a device by supporting on device real-time malware detection, classification and cause analysis.
Qualcomm said that it is working with OEMs and mobile security providers like Avast, AVG and Lookout to introduce Snapdragon Smart Protect capabilities available within commercial anti-malware apps.
The new feature is also expected to help OEMs and mobile security software vendors enhance their existing security products and make their solutions strong enough to resist potential attacks.
From a business point of view, the technology will help reduce the problems related to fraudulent charges and network congestion that occur due to malware-infected devices.
Customers will also benefit from the technology with improved protection of personal data without any compromise to device performance or battery life.
Qualcomm Technologies director Asaf Ashkenazi said: "Qualcomm Technologies is uniquely equipped to address these issues with our ability to access lower layers of the software stack and dedicated security hardware, to create a device-based, behavioral analysis approach for mobile security.
"Snapdragon Smart Protect supports deep on-device monitoring for nearly instantaneous notifications of detected privacy violations and malicious activity while also providing great system performance and battery life."
