IT managers fear for confidential data
Senior IT staff are sceptical that SaaS providers can keep their companies’ confidential data safe, reveals a survey.
NCC Group found 45% of the 1,250 IT managers and directors surveyed at large firms were worried that some or all of their Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) suppliers were not doing enough to protect their assets. At medium-sized firms 41% of managers were worried about confidentially and 31% managers at small companies were concerned.
According to Rob Lovell, ceo of cloud service provider ThinkGrid, cloud can provide better levels of security as service providers can invest far greater sums than individual firms. The key is to choose your supplier carefully.
There is definitely a lot of education that needs to be done, but the reality is that if you pick the right provider your data will probably be more secure than if it was in-house. The problem is that there are a few cowboys out there. However, as with anything, if you go through the correct due diligence and check that your service provider has the appropriate measures in place, you’ll then have the confidence that your data is secure,” said Lovell.
