News: ISIS used Telegram’s public channels to spread propaganda.
Telegram, the mobile messaging service, has blocked 78 ISIS-related channels that the terrorist group used to communicate with other members.
Telegram said in a statement that, "We were disturbed to learn that Telegram’s public channels were being used by ISIS to spread their propaganda.
"As a result, this week alone we blocked 78 ISIS-related channels across 12 languages."
The company said it will soon add an update to make it easier for users to report objectionable public content.
Islamic State has reportedly used Telegram as a promotional and recruitment platform. Security researchers said that the group used a new feature of Telegram that was added recently for broadcasting news and sharing videos of military victories.
The group used Telegram to claim responsibility for the recent Paris attacks, in which about 129 people were killed.
Telegram said blocking ISIS channels on the site was not taken to restrict free speech.
The company said: "While we do block terrorist (e.g. ISIS-related) bots and channels, we will not block anybody who peacefully expresses alternative opinions."
