Trojan most dominant malware and preferred choice of cyber crooks
According to PandaLabs, UK is one of the least infected countries by malware with 26.53% PC corruption in the third quarter of 2011, while China remains the most infected with 62.47% corruption.
The Quarterly Report for Q3 also revealed the average infection ratio at 37.87%, 2 percentage points lower than in Q2, with China leading, followed by Taiwan at 50.93%, Turkey at 46.68% and Russia at 45.73% corruption.
The other least infected countries are Sweden (23.36%), Switzerland (26.57%) and Germany (28.20%).
The report also found that more than five million new malware samples have been created in the third quarter of 2011, with Trojans once again the dominant malware category during this quarter, causing 63.22% of all infections.
It has also indicated that three out of four new malwares are Trojans, the preferred choice for cyber criminals to carry out online attack.
The Anonymous Group, who starred in the second quarter, has continued making the headlines with the arrest of an Italian cell, theft of data from different web sites and operation PayPal, according to the report.
Three out of four new samples are Trojan Horses, from 68% in the previous quarter to 76.76% in this period, followed by viruses with a 12.08%, and worms falling from 11.69% to 6.26% in the last quarter.
The report also highlighted that new adware samples grew from 1.37% in the second quarter to 3.52% in the period, mainly due to the growth of fake anti-virus, included in this category.
