Combines Hitachi enterprise-class quality with BlueArc network attached storage (NAS)
Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), a provider mid-range and high-end storage systems, software and services, has acquired BlueArc, a provider of network storage.
Hitachi Data Systems said this acquisition of BlueArc will provide customers the combination of Hitachi enterprise-class quality, reliability and support with innovative, scalable, high performance BlueArc network attached storage (NAS).
BlueArc has been delivering the NAS offerings to those industries where digital content and unstructured data is growing at exponential rates and facing the challenges of "big data" – data sets so large that they become difficult to store, search, access, share and analyse.
The merged companies will handle the growth in big data and create information centres.
The HDS strategy is comprised of three integrated foundational components: infrastructure cloud, content cloud and information cloud.
BlueArc acts as a link between infrastructure cloud and content cloud with its knowledge in file-based virtualisation, built-in intelligent tiering, automated data movement capabilities for unstructured data and integration with the Hitachi file, content and block portfolio.
While WellsFargo Securities was the financial advisor to Hitachi Data Systems, BofA Merrill Lynch acted as financial advisor and Credit Suisse as a co-advisor to BlueArc.
