Becomes a personal cloud server by connecting an external hard disk drive or USB memory drive and the Internet LAN cable, says the company.
Samsung Electronics has unveiled its new smart media hub, the SE-208BW optical disk drive (ODD).
The SE-208BW combines an external ODD with wireless connectivity, and offers CD/DVD playback and writing capabilities.
The new offering features Samsung’s own APP to enable smartphone, tablet and PC users to wirelessly stream and play CDs and DVDs on their smart devices to listen to music or watch their favourite movies, the company said.
The SE-208BW adds wireless access point (AP) and repeater functionality to connect the drive to an Ethernet LAN cable.
It also serves as a repeater to amplify Wi-Fi signals and widen the connectivity range across the home for users with an existing AP that suffers from weak signal strength.
The SE-208BW also supports Dynamic DNS which enables the drive to work as a private server. It becomes a personal cloud server by connecting an external hard disk drive or USB memory drive and the Internet LAN cable to it.
The company claims that the drive also offers a USB power interface that eliminates the need for a separate electrical outlet.
The SE-208BW is compatible with all major operating systems, including Win7 and Mac OS, and features Buffer Under Run technology to prevent errors that may result from writing speeds that exceed data transfer speeds.
The external drive is available in variety of speeds, which include 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD reading and 8X DVD±R, 5X DVD-RAM, 6X DVD+R Dual Layer, 6X DVD-R Dual Layer, 8X DVD+RW, and 6X DVD-RW recording.
The company said that the new drive will be available the starting of 2012.
