To improve restore rates, virtual integation and centralised management.
StorageCraft Technology has released a new version of backup, disaster recovery and migration software, which includes features to enhance restore rates, improve virtualization technology while centralising management of desktop backups throughout an enterprise.
The company said that ShadowProtect Desktop 4.0 includes various recovery options that allow users to improve business continuity by reducing the time desktops and laptops are offline. It gives the flexibility of choosing granular recovery of files and folders or full bare metal recovery of a system.
ShadowProtect Desktop also improves on its virtualized technology features such as Hardware Independent Restore with new VirtualBoot technology to give administrators the ability to boot any ShadowProtect backup image into a virtual machine using Sun VirtualBox. The backup image file can be booted into a .VMDK or .VHD format. In addition, it can convert any ShadowProtect backup image into a virtual machine without the need to use any third-party technology, the company said.
ShadowProtect ImageManager allows administrators to verify and re-verify ShadowProtect backup image files as well as consolidate backup image files to minimise storage usage and streamline management.
In addition, the new offering includes a management console that allows IT administrators to push install ShadowProtect simultaneously to multiple desktops and laptops, group machines, import or export node information or check the status of ShadowProtect backups.
Brandon Nordquist, vice president of product management at StorageCraft, said: “VirtualBoot is an amazingly quick way to failover to a virtual machine.
“There are several kinds of scenarios where VirtualBoot technology can be very helpful, including testing new applications, booting obsolete operating systems or recovering files from old systems.”
