To help organisations reduce data storage footprint and leverage cloud-based data storage services
Symantec has unveiled NetBackup 5000 deduplication appliance and cloud storage for NetBackup and Backup Exec, which help organisations reduce their data storage footprint and effectively leverage cloud-based data storage services.
The new NetBackup 5000 is part of the company’s Information Management Strategy, which helps organisations protect information in physical or virtual environments, while deduplicating data everywhere, bringing it closer to information sources to reduce storage.
The deduplication appliance provides source or target-based deduplication, increases backup performance, optimises backup bandwidth utilisation and reduces storage costs.
By eliminating duplicate data, NetBackup 5000 provides an organisation more storage savings than using a traditional backup offering, and allows cost-efficient long-term retention of data on disk and reliable backup and recovery.
NetBackup cloud storage combines NetBackup with Nirvanix cloud storage services, to deliver a reliable way to drive down information management costs and utilise the cloud for disaster recovery.
The company has extended its OpenStorage API to the cloud, enabling integration between Symantec software and the Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network (SDN) to deliver an automated and policy-based backup and recovery offering.
SDN is a fully-managed, secure cloud storage service, which stores, delivers and processes storage requests in the network location, providing the optimal user experience, the company said.
