A touch pad to be added for scrolling.
Apple is reportedly redesigning its Apple TV remote by making it more minimalistic and adding a touch pad to make it more user friendly.
The new remote is expected to be thicker than the one presently offered, and can be compared to Amazon’s wireless speaker, the Echo.
The New York Times quoted an Apple employee as saying that the number of buttons is likely to be cut down from three to two, with touchpad to be used for scrolling.
Apple TV’s remote has not been though any drastic changes since its introduction in 2007, as the first Apple TV remote was made with a plastic material with few buttons, which was later reduced to three and redesigned using metal.
The company is reportedly planning to introduce the new Apple TV, a set-top box that allows users to stream content over an Internet, during its annual conference for software developers this June.
According to the source, the company is in talks with television groups to get Internet-based TV service to Apple TV, iPhone and iPad.
