The new system to integrate mobile phone and e-mail functionalities
China-based AsiaInfo Holdings, a provider of telecom software services, has signed a contract with China Unicom to build out a nationwide mobile e-mail system with a capacity of 14 million users to support e-mail functions on mobile phones.
The system will integrate mobile phone and e-mail functionalities, allowing users to send and receive e-mails from their mobile phones and send and receive text messages and multimedia messages from their email systems, which can be accessed by mobile phone or computer, said AsiaInfo.
According to AsiaInfo, China Unicom users will be able to order and cancel the mobile e-mail service via SMS, WAP and over the web. Users will have access to all basic e-mail functionalities through their cell phones, including composing, responding, sending, receiving, deleting and archiving e-mails.
The system will also support more advanced features, such as push e-mail, e-mail signatures, filters, search functionality, as well as allowing users to send and receive SMS and MMS messages through the e-mail system.
Steve Zhang, president and CEO of AsiaInfo, said: This advanced mobile email system will help China Unicom increase user loyalty and average revenue per user by allowing users to access and manage emails as well as other functionalities such as monthly phone bills, mobile community features, blogs, photo albums and others, through their mobile phones.
