The company plans to launch 40 new products and invest $75m in 2009
As part of its new strategy, Nokia India is eyeing the mobile services and solutions area apart from its established presence in the mobile devices market.
Nokia India has launched a range of services, which include: messaging service, Nokia music store, gaming service and location-based service. The company plans to launch 40 new products in 2009.
Nokia India had invested approximately $210m in its Sriperumbadur unit in 2008. The company is planning to invest $75m in 2009.
Vineet Taneja, director of marketing for Nokia India, as quoted by The Hindu, said: The messaging service would enable users to access their e-mail accounts with assorted service providers such as Yahoo and Gmail. This service could happen in a matter of days. The soon-to-be-launched music store would facilitate downloading of music.
D Shivakumar, managing director of Nokia India, as quoted by The Economic Times, said: We want to move from devices to services and solutions such as e-mail and music phone, among others. Last year, we had taken baby steps in this direction. This year, we will take significant steps.
