O2 has selected Aircom International’s radio network planning tool, Asset, to support its future network optimisation in the UK. Asset is part of Aircom’s Enterprise tool suite.
Deployment of Asset in the O2 network has already begun and is scheduled to be completed by December 2008. O2 can use Asset to plan, design and optimise integrated networks; improve network quality of service; and analyse coverage, interference and traffic across multiple technologies. O2 can also share information throughout the organisation within a multi-user environment.
Nigel Purdy, head of technology engineering at Telefonica O2 UK, said: We operate in an extremely competitive and fast changing market. Customers tell us that the quality and reliability of their mobile phone network is crucial. Having a great radio planning tool helps us deliver this quality efficiently.
Asset has the capability to provide additional functionality to meet O2’s requirements. It works across multiple technology mobile networks, including WiMAX, HSDPA, 2, 2.5 and 3G. It is hoped its static and dynamic simulators will enable O2 to analyse future and current capacity scenarios.
Margaret Rice-Jones, CEO of Aircom International, said: By deploying a comprehensive single, multi-user platform into the network, we will be able to generate sophisticated network statistics and reports to O2’s engineers and ensure the radio network provides maximum quality and capacity while minimising OPEX spend.
O2 plans to purchase further licences for Advantage, Aircom’s automatic cell planning tool, later in 2008.
