User can detect the location of the stolen computer and can remotely delete the data or freeze the data in the device
Absolute Software, a provider of firmware-based, computer theft recovery, data protection and secure computer lifecycle management offerings, has launched Computrace Mobile, a closed beta program for the Android platform.
According to the company the new offering provides asset administration, data protection and geolocation tracking for the Android line of devices, like tablets and smartphones.
The new Computrace Mobile for the Android platform delivers reduced operational costs associated with managing mobile devices by leveraging the Computrace platform’s integrated Customer Center reporting for hardware, software and user information, claims the company.
It also provides an additional layer of data protection and increased compliance with government data breach laws through remote Data Delete capabilities; and ability to geolocate a device and display it on an internet map including current and historical locations.
If a computer is reported stolen, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team works on behalf of the user to gather evidence from the computer to identify the thief’s location, and then works with local police to get the computer back.
Users can also remotely delete data, freeze a device, and remotely retrieve files to secure the device – a reliable contingency in case other data protection solutions fail.
The Computrace Mobile is supported on Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.1, 6.2, and 6.5 handheld devices; Symbian – S60 Third Edition and later releases; and BlackBerry Mobile Versions 4.5 and later, the company said.
Absolute Software chief operating officer Rob Chase said their users are facing the challenge of managing multiple platforms. In this complex environment, IT organisations need a unified offering that enables them to track and protect multiple devices on different platforms across the entire organisation. Computrace Mobile delivers that capability to organizations, providing them with a complete view into their mobile landscape.
"As our customers strive to get the most out of their mobile computing investments, our solution will provide them with a single pane of glass for the visibility and protection they need to reduce operational costs and losses due to loss, data breach compliance, and inefficient allocation."
