Alcatel is introducing a range of 3G mobile services in Madrid, which will give consumers the opportunity to use voice and video data transfer technology.
The most recent development has allowed the first videotelephony international communication. Data was transferred between Alcatel’s center in Italy and a 3G mobile station in Madrid.
The system can reach transfer rates of 384 Kbps through packet transfer. This is fast enough to allow for video streaming. The 3G network can also provide access to a whole host of services such as downloads, music, or even live video transfer.
Alcatel is hoping to sell its 3G infrastructure solutions to operators in Spain and has been demonstrating its services at a 3G center in Madrid. Those already available include solutions that give access to radio systems, the UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network.
