Alfresco, a provider of open source enterprise content management has introduced new Enterprise 3.4 offering, which provides an open platform for social content management.
The new offering delivers a content platform for building any kind of content along with a social user-interface for collaboration and document management.
The company said that the platform can be used by developers and companies to build applications where enterprise content is social-ready, or can be shared, collaborated on and syndicated across the web and captured for compliance, retention and control.
The new Enterprise 3.4 features include: user-interface enhancements to make document management more social; folder-based actions for simple workflow, along with advanced workflow (using jBPM); and distributed content replication.
The social content management offering also provides collaborative Web authoring and integration with enterprise portals and social software.
Alfresco chief technology officer John Newton said Enterprise 3.4 is a platform delivered as open source with open standards like CMIS, JSR-168 and RESTful API’s, in order for developers, customers and their partners to manage content and expose repository functionality inside of social business systems.
