UK banking group Alliance & Leicester has announced that it has witnessed a significant growth in the popularity of paying bills over the internet among its consumers, after reporting that the annual number of internet bill payments via its BillPay website passed the one million mark in 2006, for the first time.
Our 2006 figures highlight the growing number of businesses choosing to enable their customers to make payments online, due to the convenience this channel provides, commented Graham Long, head of payment services at Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank. The recent addition of credit card acceptance and enhanced user security has broadened the payment options available to clients and increased their confidence in using this popular service.
BillPay was launched in July 2000. At present, the finance group holds a profile of over 200 bill issuers, including 125 local authorities and several utility providers. BillPay offers consumers the opportunity to pay their bills at any time of the day and is a cost-effective option for bill issuers.
